An opportunity for discussion and open dialogue on current issues of international relevance. A delegation from the academic community of the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa met with the Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Government.

The meeting took place at Palazzo Boyl, the seat of the Rectorate of the Sant'Anna School, and was attended by professors, researchers, students, and technical-administrative staff.

Deputy Minister Cirielli was welcomed by Rector Nicola Vitiello and Vice Rector for Internationalization Policies Francesca Capone, and subsequently gave a lecture entitled “Reflections on Italy's role in international geopolitics,” offering an interpretation of contemporary global dynamics and our country's strategic positioning on the world stage.

During the visit, the role that universities can play in building the future of the nation within a complex and changing international framework was discussed. In accordance with the constitutional principles of freedom of thought and autonomy in teaching and research, universities can undoubtedly build bridges and connections between cultures and countries in conflict, using science as a tool of diplomacy. On the other hand, universities can help decision-makers and politicians to decipher the current socio-economic complexity through multi- and interdisciplinary scientific research.
